Dual Language Education Essentials is a Professional Development (PD) offering that provides an overview presentation for educators, community members and other stakeholders of a district or school contemplating Dual Language Education (DLE) programs. 

DLE Essentials consists of a 1.5-3 hour presentation/meeting that provides a foundational knowledge of DLE as well as an understanding of the planning and commitment required to build a successful program. A longer half-day/full-day PD version is offered to new staff in existing programs. This longer DLE Essentials is also offered as part of Summer Institute for anyone new to DLE. 

The goal is for all participants to understand the research and theoretical rationale of DLE, the goals of DLE, and a beginning understanding of the program structure.

DLE Essentials includes:

  • 1.5-3 hour presentation/meeting, half-day/full-day PD for new staff, or Summer Institute Professional Development
  • Research review from the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education
  • Overview of the program structure and understanding of the how the model can be adapted to meet the needs of the community and students
  • Training and facilitation by veteran dual language educators
  • Additional future planning resources from MABE

Outcome:

  • Visual presentation summarizing the what, why, and how of DLE
  • Timeline for committing to program planning
